In my efforts to spend more time marketing my published articles and less time writing new articles, I've found that the most hits are coming from Stumble Upon. For example, a few days ago I submitted an old article, "He's cute, but is he single?" and by the morning I had more than 75 hits. Another example this morning is an article, again old, that I wrote about women seeking a divorce and some practical advice for what they should do. In less than an hour after submitting the article, it had nearly 30 hits. Marketing and promotion does work for gaining hits and readers. What is important is that I'll have to keep up the marketing and if I'm lucky, one of those articles will hit a nerve with an audience and the big numbers of hits will come.

It's good to see that traffic has picked up here. I'm hoping to get some good advice from Triond veterans and even new writers should have some experiences to share. I am moderating comments, but for the most part everything will get posted unless you're spamming or selling, so thanks to those who have commented. I've added some subscription and follower links for the reader who asked, I hope these help.

My hits on published articles have more than doubled in the last few days. I'm seeing the value of marketing. It does take time, but not nearly as much time as it does to write the article. So, I do need to consider the marketing aspects of an article as part of the publishing process. I have so many good, solid articles published, it is too much of a waste not to promote them so that many people can benefit from the information.

Marketing Matters!

During the weekend, I made it my goal to take care of marketing my current articles. I completely took the focus off of writing new articles and to catch up with the cashe of published articles I have.

Marketing matters! It really does. I used Stumble Upon, Digg and Reddit and while I didn't get a ton done (the sites are slow and they only allow new people to link a few articles at a time), the difference over night has been noted. My typical earnings doubled. Instead of a .25 gain, it was a .50 gain. Not enormous dollars, but it does show how this works.

I've received a lot of comments from Triond friends about what works for them and what doesn't. For some, they don't have the time to devote to all the marketing sites I've listed above, so instead they market through Triond friends or their own email list or other Web sites with a common interest. Either way, it's marketing.

What have you done to promote your work? What works best for you? Share your ideas and I'll post them here!

First post of 2009 -- Much to update

Ok, I've not been very up to date with my posts here. Sometimes, life gets in the way of Triond, writing and all the other stuff going on. But alas, here we go...

The last income numbers I posted were from Dec. 2008, so I'll start with this year:

Jan 2009: $25.37

Feb 2009: $7.65

Mar 2009: $6.21

Apr 2009: $6.23

May 2009: $5.97

June 2009: $6.36

Some information on articles and publishing. I published two articles at the end of December and then published nothing until June 2009, and then only three new articles. So, all the income for the first six months of 2009 is coming from the cashe of articles -- nothing new.

I currently have 83 articles publishes. I've been lame at promoting them, but getting better about using technorati and delicious. I'm also getting much better at adding links in the articles to help people find my other relevant articles.

But, the bottom line is, I've not yet reached my goal of earning $1 a day publishing for Triond. Any suggestions?

Catching up on stats and income

Looks like this post is right on schedule...

I had a terribly busy semester that limited what I could publish with Triond. However, I have made quite the leap in views and income during that time. To begin with, my initial goal of earning $1/day publishing with Triond has been exceeded once and I've come close on one other month. Here's what has happened, in reverse order:

Dec 15, 2008 -- $66.34

Nov 15, 2008 -- $3.78

Oct 15, 2008 -- $4.08

Sep 15, 2008 -- $8.07

Aug 15, 2008 -- $23.96

Jul 15, 2008 -- $7.90

Jun 15, 2008 -- $0.68

So far on the current month of December, I'm looking to end the month with about $24. Of course, looking at the Dec. 15 payment, you may be wondering, what the heck happened there? Well, one of the first articles I wrote on housekeeping went viral. It has generated more than 28,400 views. The income for that article alone is more than $80 (split over two months). It was an exciting run watching the views exceed 1,000 per day.

I realized at a certain point (although too late) that I need to start imbedding links to other articles within each article I publish. I'm working much smarter now, but kicking myself that I didn't catch onto that sooner.

Current Stats: 73 Articles Published

I'm slowly increasing the number of articles published by Triond. I go in writing spurts, so I'm not very consistent in how much or how often I write. The summer has been rough with a full time job and now getting ready to head back to school. I'm looking at my workload just for the classes I'll be taking and there may not be much time for Triond writing. It's going to be hectic and I don't even know what my teaching schedule is yet, however, I've been told I could have up to 100 students.

If I don't post a new article until Dec., you'll know why.

Improving vocabulary improves earnings

I want to update the stats on the article I wrote July 6, Seven Easy Ways to Improve Your Vocabulary Without Even Trying. Currently, the article has reached 6,142 views and has earned $12.02. For those who believe the earnings are too low on Triond, here is a reality check: A newspaper with a readership of 25,000 subscribers may pay $25 for a similar length article. Comparing the views with subscribers, the Triond income is far better than newspaper publishing.

The added bonus with this article was that it got me into the Top Ten and now I'm on the hot users list. That's gotta be good for earnings!

Well, my third month publishing with Triond was definitely my best. Here are some stats on how the month ended:

I am making progress on my initial goal to earn $1/day publishing on Triond. However, I can see that the goal is going to be attained sooner than I had expected. Getting an article into the Top Ten has truly made a difference. It's amazing what 5000 views can do to your income overnight (or in an afternoon!).

I'm not sure what my second Triond goal should be...I'd like to keep my goals dollar-focussed. Any ideas?

Daily Earnings begin to Increase...finally!

I haven't been updating my daily earnings much this past month. They were pretty stagnant until a few articles started getting 1000+ hits. Here's the latest numbers:

7/14, $8.45/13=.65 avg. per day
7/15, $8.86/14=.63
7/16, $9.30/15=.62

This is my new rut, but at least it is getting me closer to my initial goal of earning $1/day publishing on Triond.

Improve Vocabulary article nearing 3000 hits!

From one day to the next, you never know what articles are going to go wacky on Triond. Today's hot one is "Seven Easy Ways to Improve Your Vocabulary Without Even Trying." By the end of tonight, it'll be well over 3000 hits. I first noticed the activity at 2:40 this afternoon and at that time there were 1613 views. Two hours later, there were over 2100 and another two hours later it was up to 2800. As I type this now, there are 3,047...haha...that was fast, and it isn't even 7 p.m.

Some days I think I won't reach my initial goal of earning $1/day on Triond. Days like today, I think it may happen after all.

Way of Wealth Article gets 1000+ hits today!

My article on Way of Wealth by Ben Franklin has hit the top spot on Gomestic personal finance articles. Wow! What a crazy day. Two hundred become 500, then 1000, now it is sitting at 1,144. I am completely stoked about the views and I'm sure the earnings tomorrow will be significantly more than the current .30/day increase it's been lately.

Along with having the article in the top spot, my name is also in the right sidebar listing popular personal finance writers. Very cool.

50 Articles Posted!

My current number of published articles with Triond has reached the big Five-Oh. With 50 articles, I'm getting lots of views but I'm still not near my initial goal of $1/day publishing with Triond. I can see that it can be done -- that you can make money on articles month after month, but getting started has been painfully slow.

I'll have another article or two up this weekend.

June 2008 Total Earnings

For June, my total earnings is $7.90. OK, not great but at least it's a start. It is a long way short of my initial goal of earning $1/day on Triond. For the month of June, that averages to .26/day. I'm gathering that I need to write more. I tell ya, a full time summer job really cuts into my ability to write five articles a day! Ha.

Another .29 increase, so my total is now $6.83. Not going to change the average...

I now have 45 articles published on Triond. Since I am making barely .30/day right now with that many, it would seem reasonable that in order to make my initial goal of $1/day on Triond I would need to have 135 articles published. My article in George W. Bush is getting loads of hits, however it isn't making a lot of money, so that's something to be aware of.

Tuesday was $4.75, Wed. was $5.02 and Thursday, today, was $5.36. My average for yesterday was .28/day and today was .28/day also. I guess that's not so bad since I haven't written anything new for nearly a week now.

However, it's still a long ways off from my initial goal of earning $1/day from Triond.

Feeling a rut

Today my earnings went from $4.54 to $4.75... a .21 cent increase. So...that's .30 average for the 16 days previous. Since I haven't been writing much this week, it'll be interesting to see if this increase amount stays steady.

A new day, a new total. This morning my total earnings on Triond was $4.34, up .33 from yesterday. For the month (14 days prior), that averages to .31/day. I'm roughly a third of the way to my initial goal of earning $1/day on Triond.

I did get my deposit into my paypal account yesterday for last month's earnings of .68. Woo-hoo.

At least it is increasing steadily. I didn't get anything written yesterday...too tired after starting a summer job full time. Today was less taxing, so I'm hoping to get into a grove and keep up the article counts. Right now, I'm at 41 articles published.

In the past several days, I have received some really great comments attached to articles and today a good letter from a 23 year old college student on Triond who has enjoyed my financial articles. It's interesting to read the feedback and hear what people like and what the find interesting.

My views keep rising and I have four articles submitted. I'm always curious how the numbers will increase. Tomorrow may be less productive...I have to visit the eye doctor and getting the eyes dilated makes writing and surfing pretty difficult. I am also starting a summer job Thursday so that is going to really cut into my ability to write articles during the day. I'll have to be a night writer or an early riser to get anything done the rest of summer!

Happy over 54 cents!

My overnight jump in earnings was .54. That has helped my optimism a bit this afternoon. I have four articles pending which is much better than the one article I wrote all day yesterday. I am trying to figure out what I can write that will get me into the Hot list on Triond. That seems to be a key area in order to get a lot of views. The articles don't necessarily seem to be all that great, but they have a certain style of titles that are sensational so I'm trying to gear a few titles that way to see if I can break into that group.

Triond earnings updated twice today

My first check of my Triond earnings this a.m. showed a depressing increase that amounted to .23/day for the nine days so far. I was pretty discourage. Now that I've checked the site here just before lunch, however, there shows a bigger increase with a total of $2.46. That makes my average .27/day...the biggest increase yet I'm sure.

That's a relief. I was beginning to wonder if the goal of $1/day at Triond was an impossible proposition.

Slow day of writing

I've only written and submitted one article today to Triond. Slow day. At first, I considered one article a day a sufficient goal, however, as the pennies increased pretty slowly the first few weeks, I realized I'd have to get a large quantity of published material to make headway toward my intial goal of $1/day at Triond. With today's total, I'm at .24/day which is a bit of a decrease due to Sunday's low volume of hits. It'll be interesting to see tomorrow's weekday jump.

I'm not sure if I'll get more articles written the rest of today. I'm happy to have one pending.

Sunday earnings are low!

My earnings after Sunday didn't jump much. I went from $1.79 to $1.92. A whopping .13 increase. Pretty dismal, but now I know that Sundays do not generate much in the way of earnings on Triond. My six pending articles were published this morning. My new count for published articles on Triond is 35.

A good day for writing

I've had the day to myself, so I've been able to churn out a lot of content this afternoon. I now have four pieces submitted and should be able to write a few more yet tonight. I'm still working on the quantity issue, keeping keywords in mind, and leaning toward topics that seem to generate the most views. I think that publishing with Triond is more about learning a system than purely writing. I'm definitely gearing my articles to the more valuable searches, not necessarily toward the topics that I find interesting. This advertising-based writing is also less about how well you write, more about the content. I'm seeing myself as a content provider, not a writer.

Earnings are posted!

My earnings for June is up to $1.79...that's .49 more than it was Friday. Not sure why there was no change yesterday, but I'll figure this system out in time. The only articles that have not generated income yet are the five new ones that published at Triond yesterday a.m., the rest all have at least .01, and the one with the most earnings has .79 this month.

Things are progressing toward the $1/day goal.

My queue of articles got published this morning, but earnings haven't updated all day. I'm not sure if they only update during the work week or not. My views have increased significantly from Friday so there should be an increase. I'll check it sometime tomorrow, Sunday, and see what's up.

I'll also get the new links up for the newly published articles on the various Triond sites. I didn't write anything today -- nice to take a day off and relax. I should get a few written tomorrow, however.

I'm about done with writing for the day. I have five articles submitted to Triond and we'll see if those all get published tomorrow or Monday. I'll get another wind tomorrow and stack up several more in the cue. I'm also looking forward to seeing how much my earnings jump from today. I've had quite a few views today on several articles. Fortunately, I don't seem to be running out of things to write about and seem to be easily inspired. That's a relief. It's also been a treat to write about things less-than-academic for a change. Maybe that's why I've been able to churn out all these pieces so easily.

Daily Increases toward $1/day on Triond

In working toward the $1/day goal publishing with Triond, I want to watch how my income increases daily. My total for May was .68. I'm OK with that, it was the first month and I barely had any content published at that point (7 articles, so less than .10 for each that month).

For June, I'm looking to see if I can generate some time of report for the days...but here's what I remember:

Quantity before Quality?

I'm trying to think of Triond strategically...

In reaching this initial goal of earning $1 per day publishing with Triond, I'm going on the game plan of quantity rather than quality. Sure, I could spend two hours on each piece and make them masters of journalistic quality with a great mix of words and suitable for publication in any number of popular magazines. However...this Internet content business, I'm gathering, is less about quality and more about driving people toward the advertising. The more articles I have published, the more avenues I have to drive people to this ad or that ad.

So...that said, I'm churning out four to five pieces a day and making them acceptable, readable and filled with keywords that I've researched quickly on one of the SEO web sites. Other than that, I'm not sure how to reach that first goal. We'll see if the strategy works.

I just finished posting all of my published Triond articles. That's quite a collection! I have four more pending that were written this morning, so I should be able to get the published and posted here sometime tomorrow.

If you can read the articles and post comments I'd be interested in reading what you have to say. You can either post here at blogger or on the sites where my work is posted.

Currently, the article with the most views and most money (278 views, $1.59 for six days) is Five Ways to Make a Million. I must have gotten a ton of key words into that piece...either that, or people just like the title. Since it's only been published for six days, it'll be interesting to see how long this piece can keep generating the views.

One Month and a Goal

I joined Triond May 2, 2008, to see if I could make any money publishing Internet content for others' Web sites. I'm still not convinced there's any money to be made. However, since I'm not working and just waiting around for school to start up again in the Fall, I figured I have very little to lose.

My first piece was published May 3.

I've now, in just over a month, published 24 articles. My total for May wasn't much at .68, but so far for the first five days of June, I'm up to $1.30 or .26/day.

Here's my initial goal: I want to see what it takes to earn $1 a day on Triond. I'm currently uploading four to five articles a day and they are all getting accepted. I'm still learning how to use key words effectively to generate more traffic. The key to making more money with Triond is to get people to read my articles and click on the advertising links.

I'll keep posting about my progress and what I'm learning about making money online and using Triond as my publisher.
